Airtel users across India faced a big network problem today. Thousands of people reported that they were unable to make calls or use the internet on their mobile phones. The outage started in the afternoon and quickly spread to many cities, creating frustration among customers.
The issue was first reported on Downdetector around 3:30 PM IST. Within a short time, more than 3,000 users had logged complaints. Most of the problems were linked to mobile calls, data usage, and complete network failure. According to the reports, around 51 percent of people faced call issues, 31 percent struggled with mobile internet, and 18 percent had no signal at all.Cities Affected
The network failure was not limited to one region. Reports came from Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Guwahati, and Madurai. Many users also complained from other states, showing that the outage was nationwide. The problems created difficulties for both personal and professional communication.Services Disrupted
The impact was wide. Some people could not make or receive voice calls. Others were unable to use mobile internet. A few reported that even SMS services were not working properly. For users who depend on their phone network for work and online services, the outage caused major inconvenience.Social Media Reactions
As the network stopped working, many people went to social media to express their anger. On platform X (formerly Twitter), hashtags like #AirtelDown started trending. While some people shared their frustration, others made memes about the outage. Social media quickly became the main source of updates for those who were cut off from calls and mobile data.Airtel’s Response
Airtel soon issued a statement on X. The company admitted that it was facing a network outage in some regions. The statement said:
“We are currently experiencing a network outage. Our team is actively working to resolve the issue and restore services promptly. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
The telecom operator also added that a significant part of the issue was already resolved by evening. However, many users continued to complain that their services were still not restored fully.Possible Reasons
So far, Airtel has not shared the exact reason for the outage. Experts suggest that such disruptions usually happen due to technical faults in the core network, server issues, or large-scale maintenance problems. Sometimes, fiber cuts or software updates can also lead to sudden breakdowns.Impact on Users
The outage created problems for millions of customers across the country. People who depend on mobile data for work-from-home faced difficulties in completing their tasks. Students attending online classes also complained. Many businesses that use Airtel numbers for customer service were left disconnected.
For some people, the timing made it worse. The issue happened in the middle of a working day, making it harder for employees and companies to manage their daily activities.Competitor Networks
Interestingly, reports also showed that a few Jio and Vodafone Idea users faced network problems at the same time. However, the scale of their outage was much smaller compared to Airtel. This raised questions about whether the issue was limited to Airtel’s systems or connected to a wider telecom problem. What Users Can Do
For now, users have been advised to wait until Airtel restores full services. Those who have Wi-Fi connections at home or office can use internet calling apps like WhatsApp, Zoom, or Google Meet to stay connected. Customers are also checking Downdetector and Airtel’s official social media handles for the latest updates.
