Mumbai police are still waiting for a crucial fingerprint report in the case of actor Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing. This comes after reports surfaced suggesting that the prints found at the actor’s home do not match those of the arrested suspect, Shariful Islam Fakir. The report from the state Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) fingerprint bureau is expected soon, according to officials.
Shariful Islam, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, was arrested on January 24 for allegedly stabbing the actor during an attempted robbery. The incident occurred in the early hours of January 16 at Khan’s residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dikshit Gedam confirmed on Sunday that the Bandra police have not yet received the fingerprint analysis. “We are waiting for the fingerprint department to send us their report. Until then, it would be premature to comment further,” he said.
Adding to this, a senior officer from the CID mentioned that they are carefully examining all evidence. “Every detail is being looked at closely to ensure a fair investigation,” the officer stated.
Media Reports Spark Debate
Over the weekend, newspapers like Mid-Day and channels like NDTV reported that the fingerprints at the crime scene did not match Shariful’s prints. NDTV claimed that CID’s system-generated analysis highlighted the mismatch, leading police to submit more samples for further testing.
However, senior officials have urged caution, saying that such claims are too early and could be misleading. “The investigation is still underway, and conclusions can’t be drawn just yet,” said an IPS officer familiar with the case.
What Happened on January 16?
Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his home in the middle of the night. According to an FIR filed by a house staff member, Elyimma Philips, who goes by Lima, the trouble began around 2:30 a.m. Lima reportedly noticed someone hiding in an alcove near one of the bathrooms.
When she tried to alert others, the intruder lunged at her with a knife, injuring her hand. Khan, hearing her screams, rushed out to help but ended up being attacked. The intruder stabbed him six times, with serious injuries to his back and other parts of his body.
Despite his injuries, Khan managed to fight back, which eventually scared the attacker away. The actor was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery and received critical care. He is now recovering but remains under observation.
Who is Shariful Islam Fakir?
Shariful, the main suspect, is a Bangladeshi national reportedly involved in petty thefts. Police believe he entered the actor’s home intending to rob the place. However, when confronted, the situation escalated into violence.
While Shariful has been arrested, the fingerprint analysis will play a key role in confirming his involvement. Forensic evidence like fingerprints is often seen as critical in solving such cases.
Fans Await Updates
The incident has left fans shocked and worried. Social media platforms are flooded with messages praying for Khan’s recovery and demanding justice. Many have also expressed concerns over the safety of celebrities and the rising number of crimes in the city.
As Mumbai police await the fingerprint report, the case continues to unfold. For now, it’s a waiting game, with investigators piecing together evidence to determine the truth. Stay tuned for updates as the story develops.
