Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan recently opened up about his childhood experience of working with Tamil superstar Rajinikanth. Speaking at a press event in Mumbai, Hrithik reminisced about their collaboration on the 1986 movie Bhagwaan Dada. The film, directed by Hrithik’s maternal grandfather J Om Prakash, also starred his father Rakesh Roshan and the late actress Sridevi.
For Hrithik, working on Bhagwaan Dada wasn’t just another acting gig—it was a special memory. At the time, he was a child artist and had little understanding of the legendary status Rajinikanth held. “I had no idea I was standing with the greatest legend of all time,” Hrithik shared with a smile. “For me, he was just ‘Rajni uncle.’ I used to talk to him like, ‘Yeah, no,’ and I’d have my way with him.”
Hrithik recalled that Rajinikanth was incredibly kind and patient with him on set. “He was so gentle and giving. I was this little, foolish boy, but he never once let me feel that I didn’t belong there. He was truly humble,” he said.
A Special Bond on Set
The movie Bhagwaan Dada is remembered as a family drama that explored themes of morality, love, and sacrifice. Rajinikanth played the titular role of a gangster who reforms his ways, while Hrithik had a small but significant part in the story. Even as a child, Hrithik felt a special connection with the cast and crew, especially Rajinikanth.
“I remember watching him on set. He had this aura, but at the same time, he made everyone feel comfortable. It’s something you don’t forget,” Hrithik said.
The actor revealed that revisiting those memories now makes him realize the significance of that time in his life. “Back then, I didn’t understand the weight of it. But now, as an actor, I see what an honor it was to share the screen with him,” Hrithik added.
Wanting to Work Together Again
When asked if he would like to work with Rajinikanth again, Hrithik didn’t hesitate. “Absolutely! But I know it comes with a lot of responsibility. To stand next to him on screen now would mean carrying the burden of all the admiration and expectations people have for him,” he said.
Hrithik expressed his admiration for Rajinikanth’s decades-long career and his ability to connect with audiences across generations. “He’s not just an actor. He’s a phenomenon. Working with him again would be a dream,” Hrithik said.
The Roshans: A Legacy
The event also marked the launch of the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming docu-series The Roshans. The series dives into the family’s rich legacy in Bollywood, showcasing their contributions over the years. It also features appearances by stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra, sharing insights into the Roshan family’s impact on the industry.
Talking about the series, Hrithik said, “It’s a glimpse into the journey of not just me but my entire family. I hope people see the love and effort that went into making this.”
Looking Back, Moving Forward
Hrithik’s memories of Bhagwaan Dada and his affection for Rajinikanth highlight the bond they shared on and off screen. Even after decades, Hrithik speaks about the experience with a sense of gratitude and joy.
“Rajni uncle is one of a kind. I’ve learned so much just by watching him. If I get the chance to work with him again, I’ll consider myself very lucky,” Hrithik concluded.
Fans of both actors are now hoping for this reunion to happen, making it a treat for Bollywood and Kollywood enthusiasts alike. For now, Hrithik’s words are enough to stir nostalgia and excitement for what could be a legendary collaboration.
