Shahid Kapoor Opens Up About Hair Transformations for Film Roles
Shahid Kapoor is known for his dedication to acting, often transforming his look completely to fit a role. From long locks to rugged beards to even going bald, he has never shied away from change. His upcoming movie Deva is no different. In this action-packed film, he plays a fearless cop, and his bold new look has already grabbed attention.
The Kabir Singh star recently spoke about how he views these drastic changes. He believes that an actor should be ready to let go of physical features they feel define them. He compared shaving his head for Haider to a child’s first tonsure ceremony, saying it was never something he feared.
“I had a lot of hair when I started out, and it was a big part of my personality. I had that boyish look. But as an actor, I realized you have to be ready to give up things that you think make you who you are. If you hold on too tightly, you limit yourself,” Shahid said in an interview with ANI.
Shahid explained that confidence shouldn’t come from looks alone. Many actors hold on to their signature style, but he believes true acting comes from stepping out of that comfort zone. “I used to think, ‘Oh, my hair is nice, my eyes are nice.’ But over time, I understood that real confidence doesn’t come from these things. To be a real actor, you have to break away from the things you feel define you and find something deeper.”
His role in Haider marked a big shift for him. The film, where he played a young man dealing with tragedy and revenge, required him to shave his head. He said this was a turning point in his career. “When I did Haider, I knew I was taking a risk, but I also knew it was necessary. It made me realize that I had been depending on my looks for confidence. That movie changed how I saw myself as an actor.”
Before Haider, he had already started experimenting with different styles. Films like Kaminey showed him sporting a rough, rugged look that was completely different from his chocolate-boy image in earlier movies like Ishq Vishk and Jab We Met.
Shahid believes this mindset has helped him grow in his craft. “Every time I take on a role, I try to look at it as a new journey. I ask myself, ‘What can I change? How can I make this different?’ I love pushing myself to see what else I can do.”
For Deva, he has gone for a sharp, intense look that fits his character. The first glimpses of the film have already got fans excited. With a mix of action, drama, and power-packed moments, the movie promises to be a thrilling ride.
Shahid’s willingness to constantly reinvent himself has made him one of the most versatile actors in Bollywood. Whether it’s a lover boy, an intense anti-hero, or a fearless cop, he dives deep into his characters. He’s proof that true acting isn’t just about looking good on screen—it’s about transformation and commitment.
