Farhan Akhtar “Wearing the Army Uniform is an Honor”
Farhan Akhtar, the multi-talented actor and filmmaker, has always had a unique connection with the Indian Army. Whether it was directing Lakshya or stepping into the shoes of Milkha Singh, who also served in the armed forces, Farhan’s work has often paid homage to the Army. Now, he’s back with another project deeply rooted in valor and sacrifice—120 Bahadur, a biopic on the legendary Major Shaitan Singh Bhati.
In Lakshya (2004), Farhan showcased the journey of an aimless young man, played by Hrithik Roshan, who found his purpose after joining the Army. The movie was a heartfelt tribute to the spirit of soldiers. Speaking about the film, Farhan shared, “Making Lakshya taught me so much about the Army’s discipline, their way of life, and the incredible sacrifices they make. It’s a whole different world, and it’s inspiring to even witness it from a distance.”
Fast forward to 2025, Farhan is now starring in 120 Bahadur, based on the life of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati. Major Singh, a Param Vir Chakra recipient, was a hero of the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 Sino-India War. Known for his bravery, he led his troops in defending their post against overwhelming odds, becoming a symbol of courage and patriotism. Farhan feels privileged to portray such a larger-than-life character, saying, “This story isn’t just about one man; it’s about the spirit of our soldiers who stand strong for the country, no matter what.”
Talking about wearing the uniform on screen, Farhan got candid. “It’s not just a costume. The moment you put it on, something shifts inside you. Your posture changes, the way you carry yourself changes. There’s this immense sense of pride and responsibility that comes with it,” he said, adding that even though it’s make-believe, the emotions it stirs are very real. “You feel honored, almost like you owe something to the uniform you’re wearing,” he added.
Farhan also reflected on the camaraderie and discipline he witnessed while preparing for roles related to the Army. “When you see their life up close, you realize the level of dedication they have. It’s something we can all learn from—not just for the movies, but in our everyday lives.”
The 51-year-old actor-director believes that stories like these need to be told. They remind us of the sacrifices our soldiers make and inspire the younger generation. “These aren’t just war stories. They’re life lessons,” he emphasized.
For 120 Bahadur, Farhan has been undergoing intense training to prepare for the role. He’s been working closely with military consultants to ensure authenticity. “It’s important to get it right—not just for the film, but out of respect for the real-life heroes we’re portraying,” he shared.
Farhan’s passion for bringing these stories to life stems from his deep respect for the armed forces. He hopes 120 Bahadur will not only honor Major Shaitan Singh Bhati’s legacy but also shine a light on the countless unsung heroes who stand guard for the nation every day.
As the release date for 120 Bahadur inches closer, fans are eager to see Farhan’s portrayal of a man whose bravery is etched in history. If Lakshya is anything to go by, 120 Bahadur promises to be an emotional and inspiring ride that will leave audiences reflecting on the sacrifices that keep the nation safe.
